Just FYI: You shouldn’t put firecrackers in your butt

While this is obvious to some, it’s not so obvious to others.

Sheriff wants to know who put feces in the jailhouse chili

Sick and wrong, this is. Needless to say, the inmates have beaten the tar out of the suspected chili bomber.

Damn Fast Rubik’s Cubing

I’d heard of folks who could solve a Rubik’s Cube really damn fast, but I’d never seen it. This lady has videos online, as well as a pretty in-depth speed-cubing page for those folks who want to try using her methods. But man, seeing somebody solve a really messed up one in 16.74 seconds is really damn cool.

Redesign useit.com and win some cool prizes and fame

To quote the site:

Web usability maven Jakob Nielsen has been writing his “Alertbox” column on web usability since 1995. His web site, UseIt.com is read by millions of web professionals and other interested parties each year.

Many people, designers mostly, it seems, have ridiculed the plain, minimally-styled web site, but no one has put their money where their mouth is, so to speak, to suggest anything more stylistically attractive. Until now.

I recently contacted Mr. Nielsen about the concept for this contest, and he gave it his blessing.

The design must use valid tableless XHTML 1.0, CSS, and it must meet WAI Accessibility level 1. JavaScript, GIF, JPG and PNG images may be used, but no server-side scripting or databases may be used. They’ll run all the entries through the W3C validator, and if it doesn’t make it through that, it doesn’t make it into the contest.

And the prizes don’t look half bad. Entries for the contents are due by October 31st, so get cracking! If you do send them an entry, let me know so I can see it, too.

Office Productivity Killer of the Day

Stupid Flash Fun: catch flies with chopsticks. I caught a whole four after several attempts (I’m also using a touchpad on my laptop, and I have a feeling it’d be easier with a mouse).

Cop-attack fugitive nabbed, despite released mug shots

Last Wednesday, Bend police sent out a mug shot through the media: They were on the look out for a fugitive, and he was in the area. This is the mug shot they released to the local media:

A few days later, another mug shot, from last December, appeared in the local media:

Today, he was captured in Madras, and this is the mugshot that the Jefferson County Jail took:

Well it’s no flippin’ wonder that the locals weren’t much help catching the guy: He doesn’t look anything like his original mugs. Of course, with that hair, he looks like his parents could’ve been Simpson characters:

Regardless, I’m glad to hear the guy’s off the street.

Holy Crap, I got a Bloglet update!

Granted, it was for Ken’s site, but at least it appears that their site’s (sort of) working. If you’re on my Bloglet e-mail update list, you probably haven’t gotten an e-mail in a while because Bloglet’s site has been up and down, and seems to have trouble occassionally connecting. The problem is that when it tries to connect to a fully functional site, but can’t, it puts the e-mail updates on hold until you log in and check it out — without letting you know that it’s broken.

Anyway, my previous query still stands: Does anybody know a different solution for this that I can install on my server?
