533-pound Halibut caught
Now if somebody just had a basketball sized lemon and a bucket of tarter sauce to go with this catch. Man, that’s a big dang fish.
Who (nearly) killed Apple computer?
While Apple is still alive and kicking, there was a time there for a while that nobody had any idea if they’d survive. One former employee has stepped forward, calling the company a “massive failure” (at least during his employment) and goes in great detail as to why he believes that. Note that this article is NOT a critique of the current incarnation of Apple, but of the Apple of yesteryear. To quote his site:
This was written for former Apple employees, and in particular for those who worked at Apple during the same time as me, when the company grew, reached an apex in revenue, and then almost died. It’s an effort to draw some lessons from that experience.
Russians aim for world’s biggest salad
When the salad is all done, it’s expected to weigh in at 2600 kilograms. That’s 5,732 pounds for us non-metric Americans.
Windows Media Player 9 for Macs — coming soon
Will anybody care? With Quicktime the defacto standard on Macs, why would anybody even bother to install it? Oh, that’s right — because there are a pile of lame sites that send their videos in the Windows-only format, and probably anger Mac folks. Personally, I think Quicktime’s a better format, and it works across multiple platforms. But since Ken‘s getting rid of his Windows box, maybe he could install this, in case he gets nostalgic. Nah, nevermind.
Citrus Listerine? I’ll stick with my nasty original flavor, thanks
Listerine is introducing a new citrus flavored mouthwash. Why will I never use it? I agree with Tara at PR Bop: Medicines that work good are supposed to taste really bad. How do you know it’s working? My favorite cough syrup is Nyquil — it tastes awful, but I know its working when I can feel it burning my throat.
Who were the heroes of 9/11?
According this article (which I tend to agree with), it’s certainly not the Pentagon. The Pentagon couldn’t defend the Pentagon. Quoted:
The passengers of Flight 93, who stormed their hijackers and brought their plane down in a field in Pennsylvania, managed by contrast in only 23 minutes to “gather information, deliberate, vote and act”–knowingly, selflessly, in the public interest, after many loving farewells by cell phone.
I’ll try not to do too many depressing 9/11 stories today, but they might come up.
9/11: Photoblog Your Life
Today is a sad day in history for obvious reasons. While I won’t get into what I was doing on this day two years ago (I know I was glued to CNN and worrying about some clients I worked with in the New York and DC areas), my heart is still heavy today, two years later.
Unfortunately, I won’t be able to participate with Rob in the Sept. 11th Photoblog (his photos will be posted online, as will others), but I do encourage you to participate, as many folks are already.
Now here’s something you probably won’t see again
Quoting the story:
A 2-year-old black bear trapped in a maple tree in Missoula, Mont., tumbled back to earth after being tranquilized and landing on a trampoline, according to a Local 6 News report.
Just watch the video on the page. It’s pretty entertaining. Link via Stupid Evil Bastard.
