If you're reading this, you have too much time on your hands.
...but am I the only one that has a hard time listening to Bart Conner doing the commentary? I find myself muting it whenever he's on. It's kind of like Scott Hamilton during the Winter Olympics -- I'm sure they're both really nice people, but something about them bugs the heck out of me.
What's everybody thought of the coverage so far? I could use a few less Bob Costas moments, but the online coverage has been good.
Barney said on 08/10/08 @ 10:43 PM: Jake, that link to your online coverage item is a dead one. But I've always enjoyed NBC's Olympics coverage, and they are doing just great, IMHO;-)
FYI, I just blogged about the inability of BendBroadband customers to get to the live streaming video or "enhanced player," and why it's so (hint: It's not our fault, "our" meaning KTVZ.)
Jake said on 08/10/08 @ 10:53 PM: Fixed the link. Thanks for the updates, Barn! I just could use a little less drama, and more events. The events have enough drama, we don't need to here everybody's life story.
John said on 08/11/08 @ 12:31 AM: Go BBC dude, we here in the UK have got it good. Its public broadcasting so no adverts whatsoever!

Jake said on 08/11/08 @ 09:10 AM: Find me a way to get BBC over here, John, and I'll be a happy man. But when you try to watch the video, you're greeted with "Sorry, this media is not available in your territory" if you're in the US.
Carol Z said on 08/11/08 @ 09:44 AM: Hey, all you have to do is sign up with Silverlight under another provider. (Yes, fibbing does work, Barney.) I signed up under Comcast with a Portland zip. No problemo.
Just a couple of my Olympics observations:
1) Costas needs to get real and leave a little gray in that brown plastic hairdo.
2) The commentators are continually sugar-coating the blatent Chinese propaganda and their obvious unsportsman-like deceit in parading 11-year-old gymnasts as 16.
Jake said on 08/11/08 @ 09:45 AM: Oh yeah, Carol -- there's no way those chinese girls are 16 -- 12, tops.
John said on 08/12/08 @ 02:11 PM: Ah, harsh beans man. Do you guys have any TV Channels with no adverts on the other side of the pond?
Jake said on 08/12/08 @ 02:18 PM: Other than PBS? Nope. And they certainly don't have sports coverage.
Lori said on 08/12/08 @ 05:42 PM: I think you'll appreciate Slate's Olympics Sap-o-Meter:
Missy said on 08/14/08 @ 03:48 PM: Tt's Tim Dagget that's annoying you, not Bart Conner, who's actually a pretty good commentator. Tim, Elfie, and Al SUCK as gymnastics commentators; they have no idea how to educate folks on what is actually happening, and how the scores are actually calculated. NBC needs a new crew of commentators for gymnastics!
Jake said on 08/14/08 @ 04:10 PM: @missy: That's not Bart Conner doing the women's gymnastics? Thought it was (it was in year's past...). He always has annoyed me, but I'll now add Tim Dagget to that list.
