The KEY!!!! One of your early pieces needs to hit the button on the 4th or so level many times at the end of the clock. When all the buttons are clicked at the same time (the three on 15 and the one on 4) a stair to the 16th level appears.

What i'd do, as soon as i'd find a switch, i'd press on it and keep my finger on it til the end of the life. It really makes it easier. Finished on my 7th life with only 12 remaining.
