Thanks to Jack for pointing out what is one of the most entertaining specialty-niche blogs I’ve seen in quite a while: The Appliance Blog. It’s the diary of a home appliance repairman in Springfield, Oregon. I might have to use the guy’s forums as I have a couple of obscure questions about my dishwasher that he might be able to help me with.

The ice maker on my Maytag MSD2756DEQ isn’t working. The gear and blades on the actual ice maker are rotating. But I am not getting any water into the trough. I have replaced both sets of water valves. That still did not solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated.
How much do Whirlpool repair companies get paid for service calls? Is there a way to increase the amount of money paid per call?
Your input is appreciated!
My Maytag Touch Control 500 oven bottom heating element burned out after only 1 1/2 years – the day before Easter. The Model number is MER5765RAW. The heating element is easy to replace. There are two screws on the bottom cover over the element near the back of the oven – when these two screws are removed the cover can be tilted out. There are three screws holding the element in place, one on the back and two on the bottom of the oven. Remove the screws and gently pull the element out (4 inches) and disconnect the wires from the element. The element part number is 74011117 and costs about $35.00. (Make sure you turn off the circuit breaker before you start) The whole job should no more than about 15min.
Applicance Blog is cool but I’m not paying $5 to post a solution……
I came across some blogs on the GE Cafe line discussing issues. You won’t believe this…we spent $7K on the Cafe line of appliances. We had to replace the microwave three times…the dishwasher twice…and the refrigerator doors once. UNBELIEVABLE! We requested GE to take all of the appliances back and they refused. They gave us a measley 4 year extended warranty that we demanded for the dysfunctional appliances. Here were the problems:
Microwave: 1st: dented left lower side; dent upper left side; venting would open and close twice and then stay closed with the microwave on. 2nd: Dents again in the lower left; Key pad visual became distorted so you couldn’t read anything 3rd: dents in the lower left again and the key pad went completely out!
Dishwasher: 1st: Door was crooked on tub (bent); water leaked on the top control panel from condensation; leak in rubber seal on left side of door. 2nd: Installer filled dishwasher with two large glasses of water to prime pump; he turned dishwasher on; all of the water came pouring out on the floor; inspection revealed the dishwasher came with a nut missing on the clamp that holds the motor female end that attaches to the male end that goes into the dishwasher tub.
Refrigerator: 1st: right door dented; left door ice maker/water dispenser frame dented; water leaked out from capture tray behind the frame and on to the front of the door onto the floor. 2nd: icemaker/water dispenser frame not latched on lower left side (sticks out): began leaking water again.
Awaiting GE appt to repair.
No problems (yet with dual fuel range). Dishwasher stays wet after cycle; rep sent bottle of staydry to fix it!
DON’T BUY GE CAFE; DON’T BUY GE PERIOD AS THEY WORK WITH IRAN!
My Kenmore model 62272100 MFG in 09-01 seems to stick in off position after defrost mode. Just tapping the casement with the defrost timer gets it running till the next defrost cycle. I bought a new timer. The original part # 2188376, Spec FL-3001-00. The new part # 483212, Spec FL-3001-00 has the flying lead which i hooked up to 2nd connection #”1″, same problem so i tried 1st connection #”2″. Same problem persists, I tried another replacement timer with same result. Might this not be the timer? Please help -Tim
