Apparently "The Liberal Agenda" Is The Cause For All Problems

The American Spectator is asking its subscribers to pony up some $26,000 in donations to help it offset increased printing costs. Their reasoning? The shortfall was "created by the perverse incentives of the liberal agenda." Um...OK...

According to the conservatives, the liberals are to blame for everything, including rising costs of paper. Apparently costs for paper weren't rising at all over the last decade, just during the last two years.

This is why I avoid political discussion, as this kind of crap is so prevalent on both sides of things.

When people ask me about politics, I tell them that I represent a Pro-Life eugenics platform that focuses on Orwell Oprah-isms. Makes for a short conversation.

Does this blog post count as political discussion? ;-)

Hmm... Do you suppose the state of political discussion may be a direct result of all the reasonable people avoiding the discussion?

I would say it probably is. Most of the people (or at least the loudest) folks in this arena are irrational, closed-minded morons.

How does yielding the platform to the morons help?

It doesn't -- but I'm lazy ;-)

It's all part of what I call the Blame Society. From BOTH directions of the Great Fence. Blame all our problems on the other guys. Tis truly sad. A charismatic independent moderate could clean up, IMHO.

Despite what you and I both believe, Barn, it sadly isn't going to happen in either of our lifetimes.

So it's all the fault of the Blame Society? Hmm... doesn't that just make us part of the problem? Or is it okay for "moderates" to blame those icky non-moderates?

Sorry, the term "moderate" is both useless and insulting.

At its best, the label is a tautology. Pretty much by definition, everyone tends to consider their own view to be the "moderate" one.

At its worst, the label is just a way for the lazy or the cowardly or the dishonest to claim to have a political position without actually committing to anything specific.

Those that make a public fetish out of being "Moderate" are often just making a point about not supporting any political viewpoint more than any other, thinking that this automatically makes them reasonable and intelligent, or at least appear to be so.

And as long as the rational, decent people refuse to get their hands dirty with political discussion, it will be dominated by the irrational, nasty people.

"Charismatic moderate" is almost an oxymoron, unfortunately.

Yeah, and unfortunately being "moderate" is actually cause to lose support. I think that conservatives (more than liberals) need an "us against them" cause to rally for, or else it's hard to get their support. Glenn Beck had the brilliant idea to be a "political televangelist" and he's had nothing but success. Anyway, i'm with Ric most of the time in avoiding the discussion. I'm not going to convince anyone to change their mind (or should i say 'ideology') about abortion or healthcare, so as of now i'm just deleting the political emails that i get from friends w/o responding.

Chairman Meow, sorry if the quotes confused but I generally don't avoid political discussions... well... at least no more than any other discussion usually ;-)

Maybe it's gotten unfashionable in today's snarky jaded age, but I still hold that whatever your political persuasion, participating in the dialogue is just much your responsibility as paying taxes.

The day I stop believing in this is the day I stop pretending that my country means anything important to me.
