Summit High School Girls Gone Wild
You may have heard about a video that two Summit High School girls posted online that basically badmouthed and made personal and derogatory sexual remarks about classmates. It was in the paper and was on the local news last night. After e-mailing some folks, I have the video (and have saved a local copy in case it disappears). Watch the Google video below:
I honestly can't believe that these girls thought this was funny. Spoiled little brats who obviously don't have parents who give a damn.
Summit HS now has another thing to add to their list of things they're infamous for. This is in addition to their student parking lot which is the full of high-end cars that are the envy of most car dealers (thanks to their mommies and daddies); their brand new artificial turf field, paid for by Drew Bledsoe who lives nearby; and their brand new Olympic caliber track surface, all needed because they built their athletic fields on a pumice mine -- like they couldn't see this coming. I'm sure the Bend LaPine School District has spent far more money at Summit than they have on any other school. And since the school services the richest parts of Bend, there are just a lot of spoiled little brats at the school who aren't raised by parents but by nannies and MTV. And this video just reinforces it.
Update on 12/22 at 12:30AM: KTVZ interviewed one of the moms of these girls, and says she is receiving death threats and such. Really classy folks [shaking head]. Commenting and discussing this online -- intelligently or otherwise -- is one thing, but to take matters into your own hands and to bring your thoughts and ideas and make these these kinds threats out in meatspace is really, really stupid. While I obviously have my opinions about this, there's not a chance in hell I'd ever try to make these people's lives more miserable than they are already right now. I have a blog, I post my rant, folks can choose to read it or not, the community can discuss and give their take -- that's what should happen in this kind of situation, not threatening the lives of the folks making the video or the folks that gave birth to the girls. Cripes, people....I'm going to bed.
Update on 1/14/08: It was brought to my attention that this video is no longer available on Google video (which makes it no longer available above). I have a copy of the video (as I knew this would eventually happen so I made backups), but I don't plan on resharing it right now unless I find another video host (and I'm not actively looking) or get some money to pay for the bandwidth for it (the donate link is here). I just don't see the need to, either. Why? Because I'm sure these girls have learned their lessons, and there's no sense is keeping this story going. That, and it's a large video that I just don't want to share without a backup plan for bandwidth.

I'm sure we all have run into them and seen the sad lives that some of them now lead. Maybe they will wake up one day and realize that responsibility is not balancing the account on their trust fund.
Jake said on 12/18/07 @ 09:50 PM: "Maybe they will wake up one day and realize that responsibility is not balancing the account on their trust fund."
That was probably one of the best quotes I've seen in the comments of this site in years. Thanks, Nate!
MKK said on 12/20/07 @ 12:59 AM: I can't even get through that video; I just have no patience. Yuk.
Nameless One said on 12/20/07 @ 10:07 AM: Yes the video is bad, but how can you group all students as being too rich or spoiled. My son just graduated from Summit and there are alot of good students there, mine among them. It is like say all black people are in gangs and so on. You are very hippocritical when it comes to oppinions. I do believe your siblings went to Summit and your parents live in the West Hills Oh and I believe they paid your way through college and bought you cars, WOW that sounds like the people you are critisizing.
Feo said on 12/20/07 @ 10:15 AM: The field at Summit was not paid by the school District or Tax dollars. There were events the faculty and students were active in to raise money. I have rules for my kids that attend Summit and all schools have problems of some sort. Summit has excellant programs for students, mine being a computer geek.
I went to school in Oakland, Ca and it is one of the best memories I have. How dare you attack ALL the students.
Jake said on 12/20/07 @ 10:36 AM: @Nameless one: I didn't say "all" the students. I said "there are just a lot". I know a bunch of good students who went to Summit. My parents live in that school's district, yes, but only my sister went to school there as my brother and I graduated before the school was finished. And my sister will probably admit she was spoiled, too. And my parents did NOT pay my way through college -- they agreed to pay for the first year, and that was it. The other three years I'm going to probably be paying off the rest of my life. And they've bought me ONE car: A beat-up, decade-old dinkly little Honda Civic. It was full of dents and dings, and didn't even have power steering -- hardly luxury.
@Feo: Again, will you read what I wrote? I said "their brand new artificial turf field, paid for by Drew Bledsoe". Did I say the BLPSD paid for the field? No, but they did have to pay for quite a bit of the repair cost of the athletic fields as a whole. Maybe they fundraised for it, but the check is still coming from the school district. I'm not really found of the rich getting richer, and I really think that if that kind of money is going to be thrown at one school, equal amounts should be given to other schools which need the money just as much (if not more) than Summit.
My guess is the both of you are related, as not only did you post within a couple minutes of each other, but you posted from the same IP address.
tim said on 12/20/07 @ 11:18 AM: WTF, that video makes no sense what so ever, i really dont know what to say to something like this.
Nathan said on 12/20/07 @ 04:15 PM: I think you are missing the point, Nameless. It is not Summit students as a whole that Jake is "criticizing"; it is the parents and the specific social class that they belong to. Should I bring up Brooks Resources vs. The Clothesline?
Word of advice: If you want to cast a baseless assumption on Jake's character without even having the courage to use your given name, make sure to check your spelling before you post. It will greatly improve your credibility.
dartagnan said on 12/20/07 @ 04:51 PM: They're just a couple of empty-headed little girls. I wouldn't read great social significance into this.
Kenzi Kitzmiller & Jade Young said on 12/20/07 @ 05:04 PM: Hi I have something to say i am in 6th grade and then girl who they were making fun of about cancer is my BFF's sister so Wtf was that 4!!! I hate you People and by the way I know who U are!!

Okay now this is Kenzi's friend Jade. I have something to say also. I am a 7th grader at Cascade Middle School in Bend. What these girls did was really mean and rude, and if they have to do this kind of thing to be cool then they arent cool at all. Wow. One of these girls ride my bus and I sat by her once and now I am ashamed!
Ahh!
Sincerely
Jade

disappointed said on 12/20/07 @ 06:52 PM: I have to say Im pretty disappointed in the parents. They must be ashamed for raising such disgraces. Good luck supporting these brats for the rest of your life. They obviously havent enough respect for themselves or especially others to ammount to anything more than youtube wannabes.
john said on 12/20/07 @ 09:37 PM: What a bunch of spoiled F^ks
me! said on 12/20/07 @ 11:21 PM: these young girls are so dimented this doesnt even deserve to be viewed, first of all i wanna say that these girls talk trash about other girls when i would feel unfortunate to look like either oneof them, especially the dark haired one with the horse mouth, if i were them i would have someone escort me home as well! oh by the way neither one of them can dance remember your white girls!

nameless two said on 12/21/07 @ 12:09 AM: Not knowing anyone involved and barely being able to understand "names", it seems like harmless young, teen hangout time. Dancing, giggling, dressing up, talking in falsetto- not too threatening. It actually reminds me of the Saturday night live skits with the two broncs women. Back in the 70's, we gossiped and wrote notes. Just not unlucky enough to be caught on tape. I hardly think it is worth making into the media circus it is becoming. There will always be popular kids, cheerleaders, the homecoming court, jocks, "druggies" and the 4.0's . So isn't this negative attention?! If this is enough to threaten someones identity, perhaps they should focus on building their self esteem before they "enter the real world". It is hardly a reflection of the school , an area of town nor their parents. (Not to mention, anything having to do with track or field. Take a walk around Portland and note all the beautiful running tracks from Nike!) As a parent, my job is to raise my children to be independent. The hand of a three year old gets held, not of a high schooler.
Jade said on 12/21/07 @ 07:08 AM: Me again...
I stl cant beleive them!
They have no righ to makefun of people like that. I remember everyone was jelous of Savanna's really curly hair on my bus and I wa too at one point because it was so unique. But the I figured out how mea she was, I would hate to have hair like hers.
Sincerely,
Jade

Yes these girls made a mistake, but what got you going on Summit, the field, cars,
etc. You just brought out the worst.
Marcella said on 12/21/07 @ 10:31 AM: Is this what college did for you Jake.
Waste of money.
Marcella said on 12/21/07 @ 10:32 AM: Checking peoples URL??? wow
ocie said on 12/21/07 @ 11:48 AM: i agree with tim. and this video was hard to follow and how the hell gets a laugh outta tha word "KEMOTHERAPY" u have to b some kinda idiot!
JoAnna said on 12/21/07 @ 02:17 PM: I am a gratuate of Summit High School, and very proud of it. There are ungrateful, spoiled kids at every single school in bend, so to single out Summit is unfair. That turf field you talk about was raised for the most part by the school, not paid for by one single person. Do your research before you talk bad about a school and the students that attend.
CHRISTINE said on 12/21/07 @ 04:00 PM: I AM A SENIOR AT SUMMIT AND YOU NEGATIVE COMMENTS WERE UNCALLED FOR. EVERY SCHOOL HAS PROBLEMS AS DOES OURS, BUT I THINK IT IS VERY UNFAIR TO GROUP PEOPLE FOR ANY REASON BE IT RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, BELIEFS OR WEALTH OR POVERTY. YOU SEEM TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR OWN BELIEFS AND PRIORITIES. MAYBE YOU SHOULD NOT JUDGE ANYONE. I HAVE A 3.8 GRADE AVERAGE AND I OWE ALOT OF IT TO SUMMIT AND THE TEACHERS WHO ARE DEDICATED THERE AND DO NOT JUDGE THEIR PUPILS BY THEIR PARENTS INCOME.
person said on 12/21/07 @ 05:45 PM: I know these girls...what they said is actually pretty true. uncalled for- but true. I'm not they're friend, mind you, I'm just telling it like it is....
Jade said on 12/21/07 @ 07:37 PM: Are you kidding?!?!
These girls said very untrue things. Sure, Paige's dad is in Kemo, but that doesnt mean that she cant pay to get her roots died!
MY friend Kenzi who is Paige's sisters BFF says that they are really rich and that Paige has beautiful hair
And they have no right to call all mexicans sluts mind you...

person said on 12/23/07 @ 10:00 AM: It's not even that horrible. Just get over it. seriously. It's not even news worthy. The fact that it was even on there just further proves that Bend is a dead beat "city" that doesn't have anything better to broadcast.
This reminds me of the megan meier (that one tool...) story. The death threat part anyways...
People are taking this way too seriously. THIS is not serious. It's a big joke.
Some people are pathetic.
person said on 12/23/07 @ 10:14 AM: also: to this "jade" person-
I didn't necessarily mean those parts of the video that you mentioned. I'm just saying that the way they mocked them was (even if over exaggerated) right on the money. I actually laughed a bit a few times.
It's something all friends, best friends, and cliques do. They make fun of people they don't like. They're's nothing out of the ordinary here (or maybe that's the sad part?). I think it would have been a lot more vicious if they had straight up, in serious voices, without their silly demeanor, directly insulted these people.
Marcella said on 12/24/07 @ 04:44 PM: Hey Ihatetoburstyourbubble. Petty Petty Petty. Asshole oh wait did I spell f--- you

Marcella said on 12/24/07 @ 04:44 PM: Fuck you
Whitney said on 12/25/07 @ 01:03 AM: Does anyone else think it's ridiculous that people are having arguments about Bend-area high schools and "spoiled Summit kids" after they watched a video like that? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there are more important things to be discussing than artificial turf. Who cares where it came from or who paid for it.
Jade said on 12/25/07 @ 07:50 AM: well u have me convinced person,'
i guess it was a stupid thing to broadcast. And yes i did laugh a couple of times, but this was only really mean if you knew the poeple they were tal;king about
ted said on 12/25/07 @ 08:45 AM: those chicks arent even hot
someone who cares said on 12/31/07 @ 10:04 AM: this is ridiculous to fight over. that was so rude. what people do to eachother in high school and middle school can really change who the person becomes. if those people they made fun of have a really hard time in the future, i blame those girls who made this video.
someone who cares said on 01/01/08 @ 09:57 AM: oh and by the way... if they're gonna dish this stuff out to make fun of people... why can't they take it? they made fun of someone, now they're getting the relapse of it. i'm sorry that one of their mommys feels terrible, but why did your daughter do this? i don't understand how her mommy says she takes responsibility, but yet, her daughter did it.... did her mommy do the same thing growing up? just someting to think about... think before you do. yeah, it may have been a fun idea, but don't post it on the internet because godknows how many people can see it... hmmmm duh!
Marconi said on 01/02/08 @ 03:16 PM: How embarrassing.

J-B said on 01/29/08 @ 08:57 PM: It's sad how cruel people can be. No, I am not speaking of the infamous video, but the writer of this blog. You honestly believe that Summit is that bad? It is a high school just like Bend and Mt. View whose only purpose is to teach. The students there are perhaps more in touch with what is right due to the fact that they endure the verbal beating Bend and Mt. View kids which is spewed on them daily.
Get a grip people
Relative said on 02/04/08 @ 12:37 PM: Hello Jake, There was a reference to Paige Bevando's Name on a comment. We are Related as she is my niece. Her DAD is my brother. Chris said on 05/12/08 @ 09:04 PM: I am a senior at Bend Senior High School, and I just want to add a few things to this. First, what these girls did was wrong, no matter how you slice it. Death threats are over the top, but what they did was incredibly stupid. Second, this may be the only story from Summit to get national attention, but it is not, in any way the only story of its kind to come from that school. The boundaries for the school districts are being redrawn, and the rules for students transferring to a school out of their district are being changed this year for a reason. Too many students in the Summit district are trying to go to Bend High or Mountain View. Why is that? Summit has a severe economic class struggle. Those defending Summit are right, Not everyone has a sports car financed by their parents. However, many of those "Haves" look down on the "Have-nots" creating an unusually brutal high school experience for them and is the reasoning behind so many transfers away from Summit.
Financially, the problem we (at the other schools) have with Summit is that our schools are essentially in decay. We have rooms that you can see your breath in during the winter, and rooms you can't stand to be in for more than ten minutes late in the spring and early in the summer. We have trouble justifying Summit's Olympic grade track, when we have so much more (academic) need for the money.
Before anyone jumps on me for generalizations, etc. I want to add a few more things. Firstly, I went to Cascade Middle School (almost exclusively feeds into Summit HS for those of you who don't know) and while there are obvious differences between Middle and High School, the class struggles between the haves and have-nots are not governed by age or maturity, but by money, which in most cases will not change between MS and HS. And finally, I do have several good friends who attend Summit, who are not bad people like these girls, but who also agree with my analysis of this issue.
Summit Student Council Member said on 07/26/08 @ 07:00 PM: Hi,
I know this is outdated news, but I just wanted to say that I think this whole page should be removed. Honestly - when you search Summit High School Bend, Oregon, you get this page. People who are relocating to Bend and researching high schools immediately get the idea (especially from the "Summit Girls Gone Wild" title) that Summit is a sleazy school. That's so generalized and seriously gross that there are all of these people on here with nothing better to do than bash Summit, especially considering the person who created this page didn't even attend our school. I personally know the girls in the video very well and am not going to try to stand up for them because I know what they did was lame. But I also know that people should not be so incredibly harsh and think about the effect of what they're saying.
It just gives our school a terrible reputation. There are some really amazing kids that go to Summit who don't drive Escalades nor who's parents are upper class snobs. It's really concerning to me as a student at Summit that people have so much crap to say about our school. In my experience, it's been a fantastic place to learn and grow under the guidance of some extremely talented, caring individuals. As someone who has participated in many, many of Summit's sports, clubs, and activities, I can honestly say that
Nameless One said on 09/09/08 @ 10:03 PM: Maybe you should do some research before you publish things like this online. The statement that Summit students are all rich brats is very wrong. You said it has students from the richest part of town. You failed to mention how a good part of the student body lives in Deschutes River Woods, a big area made up of mostly trailers/mobile homes, one of the poorer parts of town. To say that all the students are spoiled is far off base. And so what that there are kids who have rich parents? Why does having money make you a bad person. I will not apologize that my parents went to college and work hard to make a nice income.
