That's One Way Of Getting Out Of Paying Alimony

I work for a few different companies out here in Sunriver. One of them is looking for a reservationist, and has an ad on CentralOregonJobs.com. We just got a hilarious inquiry from that ad on the site. My boss isn't here, so I have no idea if he's going to help the guy out or not:

I'm currently engaged in court battle with my X- Wife over her continuing to receive alimony. She claims there are no jobs available close to her new home in Gilchrist so alimony must continue (6 yrs). I've found many jobs that I believe she is qualified to perform from this website and others. It would be extremly helpful, to my cause, to know what the qualifications were for the person you hired to fill this position. Age and education mostly.

So he's basically trying to get out of paying alimony. Priceless.

It is a bit longer of a commute than what I have, so I don't know how this is going to help the guy. I'd look in LaPine, if I were him, as Gilchrist is quite a ways from here.

But she probably is trying to get out of working, too. I doubt we'll reply at all as I don't think my boss wants to get in the middle of this.

I agree with Jen. There's a difference between alimony and child support.

Surely, if someone truly couldn't find work in one town for six years, they would move. Or, they would continue to receive alimony.

Also,I just found your blog through orblogs. Haven't read anything else yet, but consider yourself lucky. Working in Sunriver must be nice.

And yes, geekpdx: Working in Sunriver is OK, but it'd be nicer to work in Bend, a little closer to my home. Sunriver's a great place to visit on vacation, but kind of annoying to work in sometimes (But that's a long story for another time).

I've often thought that I would love to relocate if I could find good tech work.

I've been reading your blog for a few months now. I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to post a comment; but this story deserves it. It makes you wonder if this is a trend with this woman? Obviously, her husband (ex-husband) is doing his homework. What a mooch she must be. I've covered a lot of court cases, and I think one of the biggest problems is how easy it is for people to take money from each other; whether it's through child support, or alimony. Sometimes it's necessary, but many times it's not.

Anyway...I'm enjoying Eugene. It's already been a year since I've been here. It's qutie different from Bend. My mom calls it "The land of fruits and nuts." I think it fits.

I've been keeping a close-eye on all the changes in the TV market over in Bend. I'd love to bring my family back, but I'm not sure if it's possible. Money is the biggest issue. If KOHD would pay a fair wage, I'd move back tomorrow.

OK, I think I've taken up enough space on your blog. I enjoy your postings.

I agree with you, Jason. It seems like we have fewer and fewer ways to hang on to our earnings and possessions, and it's scary.

What does your mother call Bend? (Just curious).

For the record, I don't think you've taken up enough space on Jake's blog. Keep going! :)

I've called Bend 'The Land of 10,000 Roundabouts' at some points, but I think my math might be a little off.

Of course we live in the age of 'fuzzy math', so it's all good.

My mom calls Central Oregon "poverty with a view." But that's one of those statements that's familiar to many locals. (My parents lived in Bend for many years, but now reside in Eugene).

My parents went to Bend in July for a weekend. My mom tried taking some friends shopping, and got lost because of the roundabouts. I laughed! Shows you just how much Bend has changed over the past 5-10 years.

Just like anywhere else -- if she really wanted to work, then she could find a job.

I used to live in that hellhole and I know plenty of people who still do. I commuted to Bend for school/work. Plenty of others went to La Pine, Sunriver, and Bend as well. The commute sucks (primarily because of the Sunriver area, but that is neither here nor there) but you've gotta do whatcha gotta do.

Alimony is pretty much antiquated. There really are jobs everywhere unless she has some requirement to be home watching the kids due to health issues there isn't any reason to not be out there working. And when it says six more years just indicates that she has received it for some time already.
