Cracking Windows "Genuine Advantage"

Yes, I know this is old news (I'm behind in my reading, give me a break), but if you're running a pirated version of Windows XP and still want to get downloads from Microsoft that are protected by their anti-piracy "Genuine Advantage" program, this one line of JavaScript will be very handy to you:

Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:

javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')

It turns off the trigger for the key check.

Update on 8/28: Apparently if you run the Geniune Advantage program in Windows 2000 Compatibility Mode, it will work as well.

I could have sworn I got that from you, Jake. Or maybe it was BoingBoing.

That Windows Update for Firefox doesn't do the WGA Check, either.

Me said on 08/26/05 @ 02:14 PM:
There's an even easier way - try to get updates once so that the WGA control is downloaded. Then open up Internet Explorer, go to 'Tools', then 'Internet Options', click on the 'Programs' tab, click on 'Manage Add-ons...', make sure that the top option, 'Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer' is selected in the drop-down box, then find the entry for the WGA control, click on it, then click 'Disable' at the bottom and 'OK' your way back to IE. You can now use the WU site without even having to type in a line of JavaScript each time.

You know what really makes me laugh? Apparantly, the WGA has great difficulty in ascertaining that an OEM version of XP is genuine. If you go to M$'s newsgroup about the WGA (link - http://communities.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.asp?ICP=WGA&sLCID=us), it is full of people complaining that their LEGIT version of XP is coming up as 'invalid', whereas pirates who simply have the skill to use Google have none of these problems.

I am a good example of a victim of a LEGIT version of WinXP not being able to download updates!!! I only managed to get it working after googling, so much so for getting something legit and original :(

Just download items, like Windows Media Player 11 Beta, using a Windows 2000 host. Then move the file to Windows XP host to install. Win2000 host does not suffer validation woes currently. Works for me...

Dr. David said on 06/12/06 @ 07:36 PM:
Let me expand on my previous post. Thanks to sandeep above, I am just expanding on his brief instructions, based on my own experiments:

I downloaded the file:
wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe
from MS site, on Windows 2000, since on that platform I am not forced to deal with product validation.
Then I moved that file to my Windows XP host.
Then I ran this file ONLY to the first prompt (window) then I found these files in the TEMP directory of this format:
C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Local Settings\Temp
But the files are in a subdirectory there of the form: IXP000.TMP (or similar), and there find the file:
wmfdist11.exe
and run it. After this installs you will be prompted to reboot. Do this, then again run the Media Player 11 file:
wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe
only until the first window. Then find in those temp directories (described above) the file:
wmp11.exe
and run that to install. Upon reboot you will have Media Player 11 installed on your XP machine, even if you don't have a valid copy of XP (like if you got XP Pro Corporate through file sharing then used a Keygen program to get a key, not that I would do such a thing ;-)

Enjoy!

in the browser as suggested the WGA control on adon shows that this is managed by your administrator when tried to alter it in the IE tools, while i have administrative rights in the login. Please help

matt said on 08/14/06 @ 04:04 PM:
well the above posts are either bullshit. or they just wont work for me

the java script doesnt cancel them checking because they checked.
and also
the disablement of the WGA
doesnt gain you WMP10/11 because when installing either of these they ask you to install WGA anyway. so that was pointless wasnt it.
stuff like this gets to me
because anything

norton has been cracked but never works
xp never rarely works unless its an actual corporate copy(which i lost unfortunately)
any other program i tried cracking from peopls cracks NEVER seem to work. why do people seem to think that they do? is it just me ? what?

the only things that actually crack are music apps, utils and plugins. oh and some other minor programs.

can someone email when a reply is posted please. im wondering here!!!

Ohh Matt, looks like you "Conviniently" lost your Genuine Microsoft XP Corporate Disk eh?

Chris said on 09/09/06 @ 07:33 AM:

Someone recently gave me a windows xp disk. (It's genuine copy, not pirated)
But it doesn't have the product key I need to install it. How can one crack a product key directly from the install disk?

thx alot dr. david thats pure genius

Matthew said on 12/03/07 @ 07:46 PM:
DR. DAVID'S INFO IS PERFECT! His WGA bypass worked the first time for WMP 11. Now I'm gonna try to install MSIE 7.
