The School Shooter Was One Messed Up Dude
We all know about the school shooting in Minnesota last week, but what's more disturbing is why they didn't see something wrong with this kid before? I mean, look at the violent Flash animation the kid created, or the posts on his LiveJournal, or his postings on a neo-Nazi message board. The kid had some serious issues, and if nobody noticed this and offered help or guidance, then there is more to blame than just this kid. Obviously, he pulled the trigger, but he wouldn't have felt the need had he had some support.
It doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things anyway, as everybody will just blame violent video games.

Nex said on 03/27/05 @ 10:28 PM: His LiveJournal is typical of a depressed teenager, it *IS* an alarming call for help; but what did was not even remotely predictable.
His flash movie (iirc) was originally located at newgrounds dot com (and it still is), and it's a rather typical submission to go along with ther other 200+ thousand or so.
Got to agree with you whole heartedly regarding his postings on the neo-Nazi board, he's got serious problems with his principles.
Fueled by an inferiority complex, there wasn't much anyone could do due to his introversion.
R.I.P.

Rick said on 03/29/05 @ 08:37 AM: Its easy to blame other people for not noticing, but in reality, no one can really be blamed for the decisions that he made except himself.
His parents can be blamed for not teaching him how to control his anger properly, not teaching him how to make a proper decision, etc. Whether this would have made any difference, noone can say.
Who was it that was supposed to be keeping an eye on his neo-nazi message board? I imagine that the other people that read the board didnt see his postings as much of a problem really.
The point is that no one really sees these things until AFTER something happens, and then everyone says, "why in the hell didn't someone notice that?!?". Even if they had noticed, do you think they would have thought, "Hey, he might bring a gun to school and shoot people... We should do something about that..."? I doubt it. Most of the school shooters don't really stick out as a *real* threat.
It's interesting how we have come to blame everyone but the actual shooter in these cases....
