Don't Crap In The Woods

A soil scientist at Oregon State University has discovered that adding additional organic matter to Oregon's forest soils may actually increase rather than hinder the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. So in other words, don't crap in the woods, or you could put a hole in the ozone. Full story.

Maybe it's because I'm an environmental engineer, but I thought this would be blatantly obvious. We knew this in the late 70s when I was in college. The scientists in that article are acting like this is groundbreaking stuff, flying in the face of supposed conventional wisdom. Maybe it is because it's biologists, not engineers who are (re)discovering it. The analogies to landfills, spreading treated wastewater on fields, fertilizing crops, composting, etc. apply.

These folks are part of the cadre trying to save us from global warming? Yikes.

You make the assumption that experts in different disciplines communicate, and we all know that to never be the case in sciences. It's only discovered once somebody with a louder voice "discovers" it.
