I Want a REAL Debate
The debate tonight won't truly be a debate. It will be about style more than substance (use freethepress/freethepress to get in). Again, this won't be a debate. Thanks to an extensive contract we won't be able to see much of anything that really matters in the grand scheme of things -- they even have restrictions on the camera angles used so we can't see the opponents reaction to what the speaker says. Stupid? Yes. Replace this bi-partisan crap with a real debate and get more of the parties involved (there are more than two candidates, you know).
Oh well. At least the Associated Press is ready with their story.

Barney said on 09/30/04 @ 08:51 PM: It WAS a debate. They got to respond to each other plenty, with lil second "extended discussions." The networks indeed showed split/screen reaction shots (Bush looked mighty disgruntled more than once.)
And it was VERY substantive. Minimum of sound bites. Kerry held his own and appeared to win it in many eyes. So there!;-)
Jake said on 09/30/04 @ 11:46 PM: Easy there, big guy ;) I agree, the debate turned out better than I thought, and did have good discussion/responses. But the way things sounded going in, I didn't think it was going to turn out like it did.
Craig said on 10/01/04 @ 07:37 AM: I too was skeptical prior to the debate, Jake, given all the fuss over the "rules". But I thought Kerry did a great job and Bush did not look good. I was rather disappointed in his sticking to the "flip-flop" mantra and did not really offer anything of substance.
