Canceling AOL Isn't Easy

They make it very difficult sometimes. Of course, I mentioned a while back how a guy managed to cancel it in 3 minutes, but I'm only linking back to that posting because some of the comments on that entry really show the intelligence level of some AOL folks.

oh man, I can't believe how many people tried to cancel their aol accounts on your website through that link.

actually, they don't really cancel instantly.

in the possible chance you decide you are curious that it's still there and log on.

It'll still be there...

then they charge you for activity.

canceling AOL is extremely easy. Just find a room with Guides and start cursing and saying horrible things.

Or (this method worked for me) cuss and say nasty things to a TON of random people in chat or IM and they will report you so many times that aol will suspend you first maybe, but eventually you will get kicked atleast that's the way it was for me :)

Leena, I don't think there is. I tried to do the same thing and it didn't work.

That is just another way they can get you to to come back.

Trust me, your screen name or anyone's isn't worth putting up with AOHELL'S service/sales department!

I just got fired from AOL one of the reasons not saving enough members when they called to cancel - being a customer advocate. Some people would call with 3 or 4 accounts but it was my job to give them the impression that they needed as many-
Almost 1/2 my calls were from people who thought their account was canceled, I could see that it had been months since they had used AOL but we were billing them every month. If I had a call a week from someone who thought they had canceled I would understand that mistakes happen, but 5 to 10 calls a day with people telling me that they had canceled made me wonder what was happening.
I would suggest looking at your CC/ or checking account statements for about 6 months after canceling.
Another trick to canceling, once the account is verified tell them to cancel and then hang up the phone. They are required too cancel at that point. Make sure they have your address, and make sure you look for a letter stating you are canceled in the mail about 10 days after you call.

I canceled aol in five minutes. I just told them the, ah, true story of my niece that stole my card and downloaded it on her own. Since she's 15, they canceled right away and then tried to sell me video prof. Rich, isn't it. Feel free to run wild with my solution.
