We Need More Geek Graphic Designers

And CNN needs to hire one of them so that when they do a story about Open-Source software taking over the world, they don't use a screen-shot of VisiCalc in their graphics. Link via NTK.

Yeah, the article was ameturely written and put together. Actually it might hurt us more than help us.. it's lack of skill is not merely related to what the author doesn't know about geekiness, but more to what the author doesn't know about journalism.

They quote Netcraft's current apache penetration figure of 70% without quoting Netcraft or anyone as the source of that figure (there is much debate as to the figure's acuracy as they count the percentage of domain names penetrated by the product, while detractors claim that apache machines run hundreds of small domains at small ISP's, skewing the figures)

They glorify Sendmail, no mention of Exim, Postfix or Qmail. They glorify BIND. No mention of djb or.. Oh, I dunno, I would nearly pay for software before getting stuck with BIND :)

And of course they paint the picture as though Open Source is as new as Blogs and Wikis, and that Microsoft Corp (lol) built the internet and we're the new trend that have somehow taken over more than, what, half of it? We were here first damnit. Microsoft and Co. /tried/ to take it over and we are finally gaining ground at repelling them.

All in all I feel strongly strongly patronized.

I can certainly play geek for the right price.
Tell CNN to contact me. Plus I'm local (Atlanta)
