UtterlyBoring.com is produced by Jake Ortman (e-mail, resume), a 33-year-old dad, percussionist, sysadmin, Web developer, IT consultant and jack-of-all-trades geek, living in Bend, Oregon. He created this so that his expensive journalism and technology degree isn't getting totally wasted. Why I vote down tax measuresOregonians have just rejected measure 30, and a series of draconian cuts are falling. It's a disaster for rural schools. So what is Oregon's governor doing? He's visiting Iraq. And I'm willing to bet he isn't using his own money for that trip. If I am wrong, I will stand corrected gracefully. However, I have a local friend who is serving with the Oregon National Guard. Although he is from Bend, he is with the "B" Co. 52nd Engineering Battalion out of Salem, "B-52" for short, as I understand it. I read that Kulongowski and the other governors are visiting Baghdad, but I know we have National Guard Oregonians serving up near Mosul.
